A call for Public-Patient Advisory Committee expressions of interest has now closed.
A call for expressions of interest for the North Island Hospitals Project Public-Patient Advisory Committee has now closed, following a strong response from throughout the mid and north Island.
“The North Island Hospitals Project was very encouraged by the amount of interest shown in the Public Patient Advisory Committee,” says Chief Project Officer Tom Sparrow. “The response from the North Island communities has been excellent. The committee members will play an important role providing input on key public and patient areas of the two new hospitals now under construction in the Comox Valley and Campbell River. Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in the committee.”
The project put out a call for expressions of interest in September. The project received many applications and conducted many interviews with interested community members from Union Bay to Alert Bay. The committee will include 12 to 16 volunteer members from a variety of backgrounds, representing the diversity of the mid and north Island. The committee will be involved in community engagement activities to gather community and patient perspectives on the new hospitals and to seek input on improvements that can be made to enhance accessibility to the hospitals.
The Public-Patient Advisory Committee will meet monthly or bi-monthly, depending on the project schedule, and will serve for the duration of the project. It’s anticipated the committee will be fully constructed and in place by the end of 2014.
The $606.2 million North Island Hospitals Project includes a new $331.7 million, 153-bed Comox Valley Hospital in Courtenay on Lerwick Road near Ryan Road, and a new $274.5 million, 95-bed Campbell River Hospital on the existing hospital site at 375 – 2nd Avenue. Both hospitals are scheduled for completion by late 2017.
