Building bridges: Medical communities working together for new hospitals

Clinicians, physicians and staff from both communities have been working to help design new hospitals in the Comox Valley and Campbell River, but you could say they’ve really been building bridges.

That’s among the benefits to come from the North Island Hospitals Project already, even though construction has yet to begin.

Preferred proponent to be announced in Spring 2014

The $600 million North Island Hospitals Project (NIHP) is on track for completion in late 2017, says NIHP Chief Project Officer Tom Sparrow.

The three proponents seeking to design, build, finance and maintain the new hospitals in the Comox Valley and Campbell River submitted their technical proposals for evaluation last October. Sparrow says the evaluators decided to give the proponents some extra time to enhance their submissions.

The site preparation phase of the North Island Hospitals Project at the Campbell River Hospital is over with the completion of the final component in December.
After more than 51 years of providing Public Health and other services, the Community Care building at 110 Birch Street came down in just a few short hours on December 2nd. NIHP community information meetings continue

The North Island Hospitals Project team brought its latest round of quarterly community information meetings to the Comox Valley and Campbell River in late October.

Evaluation teams scrutinize technical submissions from three project proponents

 

North Island Hospitals Project leaders are praising the work and commitment of evaluation teams as the detailed review of technical submissions from three proponents approaches its second month. Roughly 150 people have been involved in the evaluations at offices in Campbell River, Courtenay and Victoria, including technical and clinical experts and dozens of advisors from the Comox Valley and Campbell River health communities.
